On May 4, 2026, at around 1:00 PM, the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body received an alert from the Jermuk Division of the Community Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia regarding two bear cubs discovered on a retaining wall along an elevated roadside section in the town of Jermuk, Vayots Dzor Province.
Following an immediate response by Inspection Body officers, it was established at the scene that the helpless wild animals were approximately one-month-old brown bear cubs, a species listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Armenia.
A preliminary external examination found no visible injuries on the animals.
In order to ensure proper care and facilitate their eventual return to the wild, the cubs have been transferred to the Caucasus Wildlife Refuge in Urtsadzor, operated by the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC).
