Operation of Furnace at “PLANT OF PURE IRON” OJSC Suspended: AMD 17 Million Environmental Damage Compensation Claim Submitted. EPMIB

Inspectors of the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body conducted an inspection at “PLANT OF PURE IRON” OJSC, a company engaged in molybdenum concentrate processing in Yerevan.

The inspection revealed that the Company had operated the multiple-hearth furnace of its roasting section without a permit for emissions of hazardous substances into the atmospheric air from stationary sources.

By decision of the Head of the Yerevan Territorial Department of the Inspection Body, the unlawful operation of the multiple-hearth furnace was suspended.

An administrative fine of AMD 450,000 was imposed on the Company’s Director. In addition, a compensation claim for environmental damage amounting to AMD 16,961,440 was submitted.
