The Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body of the Republic of Armenia and Yerevan State University Expand Cooperation by Combining Scientific Expertise and Inspection Practice

The Head of the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body of the Republic of Armenia, Hovhannes Martirosyan, the Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Geology of Yerevan State University, Sargis Qelyan, and the Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Karen Ghazaryan, have re-signed cooperation memoranda aimed at further strengthening collaboration between the institutions.

The main objective of the memorandum is to promote the continuous improvement of educational programmes in the field by strengthening their practical component and developing both current and long-term initiatives aligned with modern professional requirements.

This cooperation builds on a well-established history. Over the past five years, 128 students from the two faculties have successfully completed internships at the Inspection Body. As a successful example of bilateral capacity building, university specialists delivered a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) training course for eight inspectors, significantly enhancing the technological capacity and efficiency of inspection activities.

The renewed memorandum envisage a more comprehensive model of cooperation focused on the joint development of practical skills. This includes combining the potential of the Inspection Body’s staff with the expertise of university faculty members, researchers, experts, and students.

The parties expressed confidence that the close cooperation between the strong scientific potential of Yerevan State University and the practical platform of the Inspection Body will contribute to the development of competitive and forward-looking programmes aligned with real sector needs.
