The Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body of the Republic of Armenia initiated administrative proceedings regarding the incident of yellow-coloured runoff that occurred on 14 June 2026 following heavy rainfall in the town of Kapan, Syunik Province. The runoff originated from the area of an inactive mine located on the slope adjacent to 10 and 12 Davit Bek Street.
Within the framework of the administrative proceedings, on-site inspections were carried out, including an aerial survey, as well as laboratory analyses of soil and rainwater samples.
Taking into account the established facts and the apparent indications of a criminal offence, the Inspection Body submitted a report on the alleged crime to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Armenia based on the materials of the administrative proceedings.
