On 28 July 2026, at approximately 12:20 p.m., the Gegharkunik Territorial Division of the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body (EPMIB) received a report concerning a bear cub discovered by a resident of Martuni, identified as V.V.
EPMIB inspectors established that at the 15th kilometre of the Martuni–Getap road, the citizen had found an approximately four-month-old Transcaucasian brown bear cub, a species listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Armenia, which was under threat from an attack by six to seven dogs. The citizen managed to prevent the attack and temporarily sheltered the cub in an auxiliary building adjacent to his home.
During an external examination conducted by EPMIB inspectors, no visible injuries were detected on the animal.
To ensure proper care for the Red Book-listed Transcaucasian brown bear cub and facilitate its eventual return to the wild, the animal was transferred the same day to the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) and relocated to the Wildlife Rescue Center, where it was placed in a special shelter for young animals.
