EU-Aligned Environmental Projects at Hrazdan Landfill Ahead of COP17

Mr. Hovhannes Martirosyan, Head of the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body (EPMIB), visited Kotayk region and met with Sergey Hambardzumyan, Director of “Kotayk and Gegharkunik SWMC” LLC.

During the site visit to the Hrazdan landfill, EU-standard-compliant infrastructures were presented, including water storage reservoirs, designated areas for temporary storage of hazardous waste, wastewater collection and treatment systems, as well as ongoing projects and future plans.

The parties discussed issues related to construction waste management, transportation, sorting, and recycling. Special emphasis was placed on compliance with environmental standards, efficient waste management, and monitoring processes.

Mr. Hovhannes Martirosyan underlined that on the eve of COP17, these improvements in environmental protection represent an important step to ensure Armenia’s active engagement in the international environmental agenda.
